The Sunshine Coast University History and Campus life
The University of the Sunshine Coast (USC) is a public
university based on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland, Australia. After opening
with 524 students in 1996 as the Sunshine Coast University College, it was
later renamed the University of the Sunshine Coast in 1999.
The university has a flagship campus at Sippy Downs on the
Sunshine Coast, with more campuses at Hervey Bay on the Fraser Coast, Gympie,
Caboolture, and South Bank in Brisbane. USC also has study hubs in Noosa and
North Lakes. In 2020, USC will open a full-service campus at Petrie in Moreton
Bay.
Undergraduate and postgraduate programs Can Be Found in both
faculties, Together with Research areas Broken into seven Areas: business, IT
and tourism; Innovative Businesses, Communication and Design; Schooling;
Science and Engineering; health, nursing and sport sciences; humanities,
psychology and social sciences; and law and criminology.
Education
They provide our pupils with comprehensive support together
with programs that enable them opportunities to participate with their subject,
community and profession, such as entrepreneurship, work learning, USC Blackboard learning and
study opportunities.
Library services
This University of the Sunshine Coast Library's mission is
to offer collections and quality services that support the scholarship,
research and instruction activities of the University.
Campus life
The main University of the Sunshine Coast campus is at Sippy
Downs, Queensland. The university also has teaching facilities in Noosa, and
operates an education and research facility at Dilli Village on Fraser Island.
The Sippy Downs campus is about 100 kilometres (62 mi) north of Brisbane. It is
a 100-hectare flora and fauna reserve, and borders the Mooloolah River National
Park.
History
Coast area started in 1973. In 1989, the Federal Government

College Act 1994.

The inaugural vice-chancellor wasProfessor Paul Thomas, AM,
who took office with effect from 1 January 1996, having spent an earlier period
as planning president. Justice Gerald “Tony” Fitzgerald was the university's
inaugural chancellor, followed by pastoralist Ian Kennedy, AO, who was USC's
second chancellor. Air Chief Marshal Sir Angus Houston AK, AFC became the
university's fourth chancellor when he was appointed to the role in 2017 after
John Dobson OAM retired from the position. Sir Angus remains the University's
current chancellor.
